For esports, Betway comes out first of the four bookmakers our team has rated, on 4.2 out of 5. Unibet follows on 3.9, William Hill on 3.8 and Midnite on 3.1. All four welcome offers are paid in free bets.

Every bookmaker on this site holds a Gambling Commission licence. Our team tests and checks every fact before a bookmaker is rated: the licence, the games listed, how an esports bet is settled when a match is cancelled, forfeited or replayed, and the qualifying stake, minimum odds and expiry of the welcome offer.

How esports betting works

Esports betting is wagering on the result of competitive video game matches, played by professional teams and players in front of live audiences. It is not virtual sports betting: virtual sports are computer-simulated events with random results, while esports are real contests between real players. In every other respect it works like betting on any sport.

The four common bet types are:

  • Match winner: who wins the overall match.
  • Map winner: who takes one map within the match.
  • Tournament winner: the outright winner of an event.
  • Correct score: the exact map scoreline, such as 2-0 or 2-1 in a best-of-three.

Each bookmaker settles bets under its own betting rules, so the same bet can be handled differently from one to the next. Take a best-of-three that one team wins 2-0. Midnite refunds any bet on Map 3, because the map is never played. Betway settles on the official result supplied by the tournament officials, and Midnite on the official result declared by the governing body of the competition. Our guide to esports betting markets covers each bet type in more detail.

The four games we cover

League of Legends

League of Legends is a Riot Games title in which two teams of five champions try to destroy the other's base. The first Nexus to fall decides the game. Each lane has three turrets and one inhibitor, and each Nexus is guarded by two turrets. Baron Nashor and the Drakes in the jungle give a team buffs that can turn a game. The scene runs in three regional splits across the LEC, LCS, CBLOL, LCK, LPL and LCP, with First Stand, MSI and Worlds as the global events. Worlds 2026 runs from 15 October to 14 November. See League of Legends betting sites.

Counter-Strike 2

Counter-Strike 2 is Valve's free upgrade to CS:GO, rebuilt with Source 2 tools and rendering. Players earn a CS Rating in Premier mode, the pick-ban competitive mode. Smoke grenades are now volumetric objects that react to gunfire and explosions, and sub-tick updates register the exact instant a shot is fired. PGL's calendar includes PGL Masters Bucharest in Romania from 22 to 31 October, the PGL CS2 Major in Singapore from 24 November to 13 December, and PGL Bucharest 2027 from 15 to 24 January 2027 with $1,400,000 in total rewards. See CS2 betting sites.

Dota 2

Dota 2 is a Valve game played as a 5v5 team clash, with a hero pool of over a hundred and free to play. Its esports calendar centres on The International. The International 2026 ran in Shanghai from 20 to 23 August after an online group stage from 13 to 16 August, with a total prize pool of $3,906,263, and Team Spirit were named Grand Champions. PGL also schedules Dota 2 events, starting with PGL DOTA 2 Event #1 from 2 to 14 March 2027. See Dota 2 betting sites.

Valorant

Valorant is a Riot Games 5v5 tactical shooter in which each player picks an agent with unique abilities. Teams have 13 rounds to attack and defend, and every player has one life per round. Modes include Competitive, Unranked, Deathmatch and Spike Rush. The Valorant Champions Tour runs regional leagues (VCT EMEA, Americas, Pacific and CN) through Kickoff, Stage 1 and Stage 2, with Masters Santiago, Masters London and Champions Shanghai as the global events. Champions Shanghai ran from 24 September to 18 October. See Valorant betting sites.

What our rating checks

The rating is out of 5 and weighs eight criteria. The weights add up to 100: Racing value 20, Welcome free bet 15, Betting features 15, Account and safety 15, Limits 10, Markets 10, Support 10 and Mobile 5. Payments and speed carries a weight of 0. Betway and William Hill are rated on five of the eight criteria, Midnite and Unibet on seven. Each criterion and its scoring are explained in full on how we rate.

For esports betting, read Markets, Betting features and Account and safety first. They cover the games and bet types on offer, the in-play and cash out tools, and the licence register, deposit limits, self-exclusion and complaints route. Racing value carries the heaviest weight but looks at horse racing terms, so it says little about an esports bookmaker. Welcome free bet matters if you plan to use an offer: read the qualifying stake, minimum odds and expiry first.

Betway also lists the League of Legends World Championship and CS2 events such as DraculaN, CCT South America and PGL Masters Bucharest. Unibet's competitions include EPL Masters and FISSURE Universe for Dota 2, EMEA Masters and the World Championships Play-In for League of Legends, and Monsters Reloaded for Valorant. William Hill carries CS2 competitions including PGL Bucharest, DraculaN and CCT European Series. General esport betting rules apply to every esport on the Midnite platform.

Betway and Unibet both advertise £40 in free bets, for a £10 stake at Betway and a £20 stake at Unibet. Unibet offers the most betting features: cash out, a bet builder and live streaming. Betway pairs in-play esports with cash out and live video. Midnite sets a maximum payout of £25,000 on esports bets, and £250,000 on any bet or combination of bets per calendar day.

Esports bets the bookmakers offer

The bet types below are the ones the bookmakers name for esports. Prices change by the minute and are not quoted here. Our guide to esports betting markets explains how each one works.

Match and map bets

Match winner is the base market at Betway, Unibet and Midnite, and William Hill prices the winner of individual matches. Betway adds map winner, next map and correct map score. Midnite's settlement rules cover Match Winner, Map Winner, Correct Score and Match Handicap. William Hill also names the winner of the first, second or third round.

Handicaps and totals

Unibet has a Map Handicap tab beside Match Winner. In Counter-Strike, Betway offers map handicaps and total rounds over/under. Midnite offers a map rounds handicap that includes overtime unless stated otherwise, plus Round Handicap bets, and covers Kills Total and Kills Handicap, graded on the in-game scoreboard.

In-game bets

First blood is named by William Hill, Betway (in shooters) and Midnite. Betway also names round winner, next kill and pistol-round markets for the opening round of each half. Midnite covers First to X Kills, Race To markets at 3, 6, 9 and 12 rounds, and team-to-score markets for knife, grenade and Molotov kills. In League of Legends it covers inhibitors, Total Dragons and Total Barons. In Dota 2 it covers Roshan, settled on the team that slays Roshan. William Hill names the first turret destroyed in a MOBA.

Outright bets

Tournament winner is the outright market at Betway. Unibet's League of Legends World Championship outrights include winner, first-time winner, region of winner and highest KDA within a team. Betway voids outright bets if a tournament is not completed, and Midnite voids them if a tournament schedule is postponed by more than 30 days.

In-play betting, cash out and streaming

  • Betway: Esports carries the in-play tag. Live markets include map winner, next map and round winner, and in shooters first blood or next kill. The stream usually runs a few seconds behind the bookmaker's live data, and Betway Live Video runs between 2 and 5 seconds behind the event. Cash out covers single, multiple and system bets before and during an event, but not each-way selections, and is not guaranteed to be available.
  • William Hill: In-play bets go through an automated time delay before acceptance. A marginal price change is accepted at the larger price, and a bigger change re-offers the bet at the new price. A suspended market takes no bets, and Cash Out may not be available while it is suspended.
  • Unibet: A delay of a few seconds sits between placing an in-play bet and its acceptance. Unibet TV streams are open to logged-in customers with money in the account or a bet placed in the last 24 hours. Cash out is offered, and the bet builder is pre-match only.
  • Midnite: The data supplied for in-play betting is subject to a delay. A bet placed after the real start of a match, on a market not offered in play, is void. Cashout can be switched off on any account at any time, without compensation.

Welcome offers and esports bets

  • Betway: Place a £10 pre-event bet at minimum odds of 2.0 and receive four £10 free bets on settlement, each with betting restrictions. They expire after 7 days. New customers choose one of Betway's welcome offers, and this is the free bets one.
  • Unibet: A £20 bet earns £40 in free bets, and free bets expire within 7 days of issue. The separate racing welcome offer, two £10 free bets after a £20+ bet, must be used on horse racing only.
  • William Hill: Deposit £10 or more, then place a £10 single bet at odds of 1/2+ on any sports market except Virtuals. Three £10 free bets follow settlement, expire in 7 days and must each be used in full. Deposits by PayPal, Neosurf, Paysafe, Apple Pay, NETELLER, Skrill, ecoPayz, Kalibra/Postpay and the WH PLUS Card do not qualify.
  • Midnite: Place a £10 sportsbook bet at minimum odds of 1/1 (2.0) or higher within 14 days of sign-up. The £30 comes as one £10 free single, three £5 bet builder free bets and one £5 accumulator free bet. They expire 7 days after crediting and the free stake is not returned with winnings. Voided, cashed out and each way bets do not qualify, only eligible Sportsbook markets count, and Virtual Sports are excluded.

Confirm with the bookmaker that an esports bet counts before opting in. More offers are on esports betting offers.

Licences we check

Each bookmaker listed holds a Gambling Commission licence, and the public register shows each as active.

  • Betway: Betway Limited, Gambling Commission account number 39372.
  • Unibet: Platinum Gaming Limited, account number 45322.
  • William Hill: WHG (International) Limited, account number 39225.
  • Midnite: Midnite Limited, licence number 101839.

Our team looks each number up on the register and reads the bookmaker's own licence statement alongside it. A brand without a UK licence is named only to say so, never listed with a button. GG.Bet is the example.

How to choose an esports bookmaker

  1. Check the Gambling Commission licence. Every site taking bets from British customers must hold one, and you must be 18 or over.
  2. Check that the game you follow is listed, and look for the competition you follow, not only the game. The table above shows who names what.
  3. Read the settlement rules for a forfeit or a replayed map. At Midnite, bets placed before a replayed map starts are settled on the replay, and three or more stand-ins for one team void all bets on the series. At Betway, a team that taps out is settled as a loss.
  4. Read the offer terms: the qualifying stake, minimum odds, free bet expiry and eligible markets.
  5. Set your limits before the first bet. All four bookmakers offer deposit limits.

Bet within your limits

Set a deposit limit, a loss limit and a time limit before a series starts, and decide the budget for a match before it begins. Esports matches run at every hour, and in-play prices move quickly. A free bet, a price boost or a big final is never a reason to raise a limit or chase a loss.

Betway has deposit limits, session reminders, Take a Break and self-exclusion. Unibet has deposit limits, net deposit limits, product blocks and self-exclusion. William Hill has deposit limits, time-outs, session time reminders and self-exclusion. Midnite has deposit and loss limits, Cool Off and exclusion for a set period.

Gamstop blocks every site licensed in Great Britain at once. For help, call the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 (England and Scotland) or the NHS Wales Helpline on 0808 2819 265 (Wales). GambleAware also offers support.

Questions

Which UK bookmakers take bets on esports?

Betway, Unibet, William Hill and Midnite all take esports bets. The first three run dedicated esports sections with matches and competitions, and Midnite carries esports among its sports.

Do esports bets count towards a sports welcome offer?

Not automatically. Every offer sets its own eligible markets, so an esports bet counts only where the bookmaker confirms it. Ask before opting in, and read the qualifying stake and minimum odds too, because a bet placed below the minimum odds does not qualify.

Can I bet on esports in play?

Yes. Betway tags Esports as in-play, and William Hill carries in-play esports matches. A broadcast runs behind the bookmaker's live data, so treat it as a guide to the match, not the live state of the market.

Which esports games can I bet on?

This site covers League of Legends, Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2 and Valorant. Bookmakers list more titles: Betway includes Overwatch 2, Rainbow Six, Honor Of Kings, Mobile Legends, Arena of Valor and CrossFire, Unibet adds Overwatch and Rainbow Six, and William Hill names StarCraft 2, Overwatch and King of Glory.

Is esports betting the same as virtual sports betting?

No. The result of a virtual sport comes from a simulation, while an esports result comes from real players. Bookmakers list them as separate sports: Betway shows Esports and Virtuals apart, and William Hill and Midnite exclude Virtuals from their welcome offers. Check which one a market counts as before you bet.

How do bookmakers settle a bet if a match is cancelled?

Cancelled matches are voided. Midnite voids all Counter-Strike bets if a match is cancelled before starting or postponed for more than 48 hours. Betway voids a match not played within 3 hours of the original start time, or 48 hours at LAN events. If a match starts but is not completed, Betway voids match betting unless a team is disqualified, and Midnite settles the markets that reached a natural conclusion and voids the rest.

What is a map handicap?

A map handicap lets you back a team to win by more than one map. The handicap is applied to the number of maps each team wins, so the bet is decided on the margin in maps, not only on who wins the match. Unibet lists Map Handicap beside Match Winner. At Midnite, a change in the announced number of maps leaves handicap bets with no action, while Match Winner bets stand.

How do I check that an esports bookmaker is licensed?

Find the Gambling Commission licence or account number in the bookmaker's site footer, then look it up on the Gambling Commission public register, which shows whether the licence is active. Our team does this for each bookmaker before it is rated.

If you think we are wrong

When a bookmaker changes a term, a market or a figure, our team reads the bookmaker's pages again and corrects this page. The checks our team repeats are described on how we rate. Corrections can be sent to info@esportsbookies.co.uk.
